SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (02 October 1997)—TypeRight has received a 1997 Impact Award from Publish magazine.

The award, in the Innovation category, recognizes the group's impact on the publishing industry. It was presented at a ceremonial luncheon held as part of Seybold Seminars in San Francisco.

"We're glad to see that TypeRight is organizing the American design community on an issue that publishers in many other countries have understood for some time: a typeface design deserves the same protection as any other piece of original creativity," notes Publish.

"With 1,800 people on its mailing list and more than 500 signatories on its petition to Congress, TypeRight is having an impact on a little-understood battle that affects designers and publishers every day."

The award "shows Publish magazine's commitment to and support for our mission," said TypeRight spokesman Chris MacGregor, who accepted the award along with fellow member Don Synstelien.
